Ann Virginia Powell Watson, 81, of Ruckersville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 5, 2026, after fighting a long courageous battle with interstitial lung disease.
Ann was the daughter of the late Andrew Powell, Sr. (Pete) and Madeline Shifflett Powell.
She was baptized at an early age and had a strong relationship with God.
She was known for her crafting skills, every Christmas making ornaments for her family, baking cakes and cupcakes for every family occasion, and her famous macaroni and cheese, all made with love. She always had a listening ear and was willing to do anything for anybody at any time.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donald Watson; one son, Jerry Melton, Jr. and his wife Kathy (that she loved like a daughter) of Crockett; two daughters, Barbara Melton of Charlottesville, and Kelly Morris and her husband Jeff (who was like a son to her) of Ruckersville; five grandchildren, Jason Lesich of Charlottesville, Christopher Lesich of Ruckersville; Jaiden Morris, Collin Morris and Kylah Morris of Ruckersville; four great-grandchildren, Sean, Jacob and Faline Lesich of Ruckersville, and Raelyn Lesich of Charlottesville, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by a special niece, Tracy Smith and her husband Billy of Ruckersville and a special great-nephew, Joey Smith and his wife Chelsey of Ruckersville. In addition she is survived by one brother Andrew (Andy) Powell of Nortonsville; one sister, Shirley Payne and her husband Dan of Nortonsville; and a very dear friend, Ruth Morris of Ruckersville.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 at Batten Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 12th at Batten Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00, followed by a graveside service at Holly Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Ann’s memory to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
