Betty Lou Morris Roach

August 22, 1947 — January 22, 2021

Betty Lou Morris Roach, 73, of Free Union, passed away on January 22, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 22, 1947, in Prince Frederick, Maryland to the late Daniel Clark Shifflett and Annie Edith Morris Shifflett.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sibling, William Marshall, Ernest Lee, Everett Herman, James Orville, Louise Mae, and Annie Edith. She married Naymon Earl Morris on December 31, 1970, in White Hall, VA, and together they had two children, Lisa Mae Vick, and Anthony Phillip Morris. Naymon passed on June 26, 2014.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa and her husband, Cory, and their children, Morgan, Daniel, Casey, and Ryan; son, Anthony Phillip Morris and his wife, Melinda McClurkin and their children, Christopher, Mikayla, and Elijah; siblings, Robert Edward, Larena Catherine, and Mary Etta; and a nephew, Eugene Gordon Shifflett the son of James O. Shifflett.

She later married Ferlin Alex Roach on May 5th, 2017.  She spent her last days being comforted by her husband who loved and cared for her for the rest of her life.

Betty graduated high school and proceeded to the work force where she worked with special needs children for many years. She later became a stay-at-home babysitter for all of her grandchildren. She was a very active member at Nortonsville Church of God throughout her life. She enjoyed teaching teens and young adults in Sunday School about the word of God. She had an impact on so many lives. Known as the, “Sunshine Lady” at church, she always shared congratulations, condolences, and letters of love to those around her. She lived for serving God and spreading His word. Through this, she made many lifelong friendships and deepened relationships with the church community.


She had a very sharp mind right up until the very end. She was loved by many friends and family. She always had a sense of humor that could make anyone smile and laugh. She will be greatly missed. We love you Betty and will miss you always.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 25, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Nortonsville Church of God.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Nortonsville Church of God with Pastor Greg Payne officiating.

Interment will follow in Prize Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Rd, Dyke, VA 22935.
