Carolyn Ella (Deane) Hodge, age 74, of Ruckersville, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on December 30, 2025.
Carolyn was born on March 5, 1951, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Thomas Edward Deane and Margaret Louise (Lamb) McDaniel. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dewey Hodge; her sister, Brenda Adkins; and her brother, Warren Deane.
She retired from the University of Virginia, where she worked at Newcomb Hall. Carolyn was always smiling, enjoyed life, and was known for her warm and loving spirit. She knew and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
For the past 14 years, Carolyn lived with her daughter Sylvia and her children, where she was surrounded by love and family every day. Sylvia lovingly cared for her for 14 years. Carolyn is survived by her children: Alex (Patty) Adkins, Sylvia Dawson, Carolyn (Stanley) Powell, and Dewey Hodge; grandchildren: Jessica (Derrick) Adkins, Brandon Eubanks, Alyssa Adkins, Brittany (Dan) Paxton, Dalton Dickerson, Kayla (Eddie) Dawson, Kyle Dawson, and Luke Dawson; step-grandson Darren (Brittany) Powell; great-grandchildren Andi Paxton, Hailey Williams, and Berkleigh Joachim; and step great-grandchildren Autumn Powell, Dayton Powell, and Lane Powell. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Julie and Nena, for the compassionate care given to Carolyn. The family would also like to thank her niece, Donna Harlow, for her unwavering love, support, and kindness during this difficult time.
