Chester Owen Losinski

Chester “Chet” Owen Losinski, 77, of Ruckersville, Virginia, passed away at home on Monday, August 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, on February 27, 1949, Chet spent his childhood in Alpena, Michigan. His parents were Edward and Frances Losinski.

Chet is survived by his wife, Therese “Terry” Losinski, and their children, Amy Stang (m. Dave) and Rebecca Hayes (m. David). He is also survived by four loving grandchildren: Katherine "Katie" Stang, Christopher Stang, Hunter Hayes, and Margaret "Maggie" Hayes, whom he was so proud of. He loved how much they all made him laugh and smile.

Chet is also survived by his six siblings: Martha May (m. Chuck), Karen Michaely (m. Larry), Cindy Johnson (m. Chris), Rita Polley, Ed Losinski (m. Robbie), and John Losinski (m. Kathy). He considered his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Dot St. Jean, as his extended siblings. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Alpena High School and Besser Technical Center in Michigan, Chet proudly served his country as a Navy Seabee, including a tour in Vietnam and a tour in Rhode Island, where he met the love of his life, Terry.

Upon returning to the States, he became a civil service employee supervisor at the Naval Construction Battalion Base in Davisville, Rhode Island. He also simultaneously served in the Air Force National Guard and received an A.S. degree in Management from Johnson & Wales College in Providence, Rhode Island. During his time in Davisville, he was named Rhode Island Federal Employee of the Year in 1981.

In the early 1990s, Chet was relocated to the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After retiring from the military, he moved to Ruckersville, where he began working for Central Virginia Electric Cooperative. He worked there until his retirement in the early 2010s.

Later in life, Chet connected with his biological father, Chester Owen Boyd Sr., after whom he was named at birth. Though time with his biological father was short-lived due to Chester Sr.’s death, it left a lasting memory.

Chet was always a very active member of his community. While in Rhode Island, he served for four years as a VFW Commander of Post 449. After settling in Greene County, he took on various roles throughout his life. He became a member of The American Legion at Post 128 in Stanardsville. He received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for his courageous military service at an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War. He joined the Greene County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and served on the county’s Safety Foundation. He volunteered for many years at the Greene County Visitor Center and within the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, helping the department to earn accreditation successfully. For these efforts, he was awarded Greene County Sheriff’s Office Citizen of the Year in 2017. He was also a member of Shepherd of the

Hills Catholic Church. Through Chet’s many community involvements, he developed many lasting friendships. He was known for his kindness and easy smile.

Chet loved the outdoors, hiking and traveling with his wife, Terry. He also enjoyed many intense hiking, biking, and canoeing trips with his brother-in-law, George. Known for climbing precarious perches that made Terry nervous, Chet always managed to find the most spectacular views in ways that made for great stories. His family is certain that going forward, he is scoping out the best views of them from Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church. A private graveside service for family members will be conducted later at Culpeper National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont and the American Cancer Society.
