Davis "Davy" P. Chapman III of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully, in typical Davy fashion, on July 14, 2026.
Affectionately known as "Huggy" by family and friends, Davy was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on June 11, 1965, to the late D.P. and Betty Lou Chapman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, uncles, and a special cousin, Chad Fenner.
Davy was a proud graduate of William Monroe High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. Following graduation, he attended Ferrum College, where he pursued his studies. Throughout his life, Davy explored many career paths, but nothing brought him greater happiness than farming and helping his dad at Chapman's Grocery. He found purpose and fulfillment in the land, the hard work it required, and the friendships and family connections it nurtured. When he wasn't working, you could often find Davy in the woods hunting, sitting quietly on a riverbank with a fishing pole in hand, or enjoying some wind therapy on his Harley.
Davy is survived by his faithful feline companion, Toby; his sisters, Paula Chapman-Davis and her husband, Gary, and Angela Johnson; his niece and nephew, Brittany and T.L.; his aunts and uncles, Wendell Fenner, Jane Bishop, and Brenda Fenner; and many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Davy will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and the warmth that earned him the nickname "Huggy." During his time at Ferrum College, he formed lifelong friendships, including one with Steve Lentz, who became the brother he never had. Davy was a quiet, humble man who preferred a simple life. Though he often kept to himself, those who knew him best appreciated his gentle nature, steady presence, and kind heart. He valued meaningful relationships and found happiness in life's simple pleasures. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who continued to stop by for a visit and to those who mowed Davy's grass when he was no longer able to do it himself. A very special thank you to Lora Seale and her husband, Kevin, for the countless ways they cared for Davy and supported him with such kindness, love and compassion.
In keeping with Davy's wishes, there will be no services. As he so often said, "Nah, I'm Good", after a meaningful and deeply important conversation with a friend, we find comfort in knowing that now he is finally “Good”.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mountainside Cremation of Ruckersville, Virginia.
