Dean Alan Leiby, 70, of Ruckersville, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his home on January 10, 2026. He was born on April 20, 1955, in Akron, Ohio, to Lloyd and Helen Grace Leiby, both of whom preceded him in death. Dean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his sons, Damian Alan Leiby and Jay Lloyd, his former daughter-in-law, Christina Leiby, his sister, Linda Howiler, and his brother, Rod Leiby. He also leaves behind his former daughter-in-law, Pam, seven grandchildren, Charlotte Leiby, Ryan Lloyd, Jessie Layman, Cheye Lloyd, Sage Lloyd, Savannah Lloyd, and EJ Lloyd, as well as several great-grandchildren.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Erma Paulette Leiby; his son, Shane Lloyd; and his grandson, Gage Lloyd.
A dedicated worker, Dean spent many years at General Electric before retiring from Micron. Outside of his career, he was passionate about a variety of hobbies, including bowling, enjoying live music, trips to the beach, and spending time with friends and family at lively parties. He was always active with home improvement projects and loved to keep busy with hands-on work.
Dean’s heart was as big as his passions. He had a unique ability to make everyone he met feel like family. He truly never met a stranger. His faith led him to go on a mission trip to Africa in 2025 with Riverstone Church, expanding his circle of loved ones even further. Dean had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and he found great joy in their company. In honor of his love for animals, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Greene County Animal Shelter or Charlottesville SPCA.
Dean will be remembered for his kindness, infectious energy, and the love he spread to everyone around him. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A viewing and visitation will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, from 4 pm–7 pm at Batten Funeral Home, located at 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968. A formal memorial service will be held at a later date.
