Dewey Ollie Shifflett

August 2, 1940 — December 15, 2025

Dyke

Dewey Ollie Shifflett, (85), of Dyke went home to be with Jesus on December 15, 2025. He was born on August 2,1940 to the late Zettie and Sarah Roach Shifflett. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorcas Ann Shifflett; twin daughters Sharon Campbell (Jeff) and Karen Marshall (Randall); his grandchildren, Jessica Kenty (Brandon), Austin Marshall (Erin), Ashlyn Lamm (Max), and Stephanie Daniels (Steven, who was like a son to Dewey); great-grandchildren, Hailey Taylor (Trey), Lillian Kenty, Abigail Kenty, Madeline Kenty, Benjamin Kenty, Emelyn Marshall, Aiden Marshall, Easton Marshall, Adelyn Marshall, and Landon Daniels, Papa’s special buddy; Great Great Granddaughter Ellie Mae Taylor, who was his pride and joy; and two special nephews, George and Steve Shifflett. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended friends and family who loved him very much, including a special friend, Jimmy Morris, who frequently visited him and was always just a phone call away.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Zettie and Sarah Roach Shifflett; sisters, Betty Shifflett, Rose Dofflemyer, and Madlyn Blose; and brothers, Nathan Shifflett, Lester Shifflett, and Eddie Shifflett.

Dewey was the best Papa around. He loved his family so much and would light up when they were around. Dewey loved having visitors and would often say, “Dorcas, is anyone coming to visit today?” Dewey was a barber for 47 years. He owned Shifflett’s Barber Shop in Stanardsville for 45 years before retiring in December 2009. In his free time between customers, he would fix broken clocks at his shop. He always kept his snacks and drinks stocked in the barbershop. Dewey had many friends who would stop in to sit and talk. After retirement, Dewey spent his time with Dorcas watching his great-grandkids and loved every minute. He also loved taking vacations and camping with his family. Over the years, Dewey loved playing the guitar with family and friends. His favorite song to play was “Washed in the Blood.” When Dewey was home, you could find him outside working on his tractor, feeding his cows, or working in his garden.

On November 19, 2025, Dewey accepted Jesus as his personal savior. His family has prayed for his salvation for many years, and we rejoice that we will see him again in Heaven.

The family would like to thank his granddaughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Steven, for taking such great care of Dewey for the last six years. They would also like to thank Greene Sentara Medicine and Medi Hospice for the care they provided for him in the final years of his life.

The family will receive friends at Batten Funeral Home on December 18, 2025, at 10:00 am, with a funeral service following at 11:00 am, officiated by Pastor Greg Payne. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to visit Dorcas at her home any time.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
