Donald Neve Shifflett

October 6, 1953 — September 20, 2025

Dyke

Donald Neve Shifflett, 71, of Dyke, Virginia, peacefully began his journey to his forever home on September 20, 2025, at his residence in Greene County, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 6, 1953, in Charlottesville, the son of Charlotte Shifflett Perry and the late Frederick “Fred” Neve Shifflett.

Donald retired from the City of Charlottesville after 33 years of dedicated service. Following retirement, he worked for 10 years at Jim Price while enjoying many spontaneous road trips and camping adventures with his loved ones.

Donald was a proud Charter Member and served 10 years with the Dyke Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. After experiencing his own house fire that led to health challenges, he was eventually forced to slow down. Before his accident, he could often be found in his garage, listening to bluegrass music. Donald will be fondly remembered for his love of camping—always searching for the best shade tree—and for spending Saturdays at yard sales and flea markets. Above all, he found joy in helping others, always putting their needs before his own. He truly never met a stranger.

Donald is survived by his fiancée and devoted caregiver, Fern Sutherland, whom he loved endlessly; his three children, Donald “Scott” Shifflett (Tiffany), Kathy Shifflett (Franklin), and Billy Shifflett; and his adored grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jennifer, Kallob (and his wife, Kali), Ashley, Landin, and Emerie Shifflett. His great-grandchildren—Jaxon, Emmaleigh, Huntleigh, and Kamari—were his pride and joy.

He is also remembered with love by his two godchildren, Tyler Powell and Matthew Shifflett, and two very special nieces, Kandie Shifflett and Kendall Castillo (caregiver), whose unwavering love, kindness, and care meant so much to Donald and his family. Donald is further survived by six siblings: Janice Eicher (Marvin), Fred Franklin Shifflett (Peggy), Gloria Mykich (Jim), Roy Lee Shifflett (Crystal), Steve Shifflett (Debbie), and George Shifflett (Lisa), along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and dear friends who loved him deeply.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his friends, Gary “Nut” Shifflett, Henry “Dick” Shifflett, and his wife, Patty, as well as to Racheal Miller (PC) and Heather Shifflett, for their compassion, countless appointments, care, and comforting presence. A special thank you is also extended to the wonderful Hospice of the Piedmont team for their support during this time.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Batten Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Greg Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.

An online guestbook is available at www.battenfuneral.com for those wishing to share memories or offer condolences. Your kind words will bring comfort and strength to the family during this time.
