Fletcher "Rocky" Fitzhugh

Fletcher “Rocky” Rothford Fitzhugh, 75 of Orange passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at UVA Culpeper Hospital.
He was born January 6, 1941 in Charlottesville, Virginia, son of the late Edwin Fletcher Fitzhugh and Jane Booten Herndon Fitzhugh.
Rocky is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Virginia Frazier Fitzhugh; daughter, Jennifer Fitzhugh Faulconer and her husband, John Y. Faulconer, Jr.; granddaughter, Virginia “ Jenna” Conway Faulconer; grandson, Judson Ray Faulconer all of Orange; sister, Judy Fitzhugh Estes and her husband, Joe of Gordonsville; daughter-in-law, Laura Breeden Fitzhugh of Zion Crossroads; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Rocky was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Conway Fitzhugh.
Known as Rocky since he was 3 days old, he was a charter member of the Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief for 25 years. He was also a founding member of Greene Hills Club. Rocky was a member of the Army Reserves Field Artillery. He was also a member of the Operators Union #147 and retired from Parham Construction Company as a crane operator.
In his retirement, he joyfully drove a bus for Greene County Public Schools where Rocky especially loved driving for athletic events and other activities. Most of all, he enjoyed attending Jenna and Judson’s sporting events.
Rocky lived his life on his own terms and always parted company saying, “Don’t take any wooden nickels.”
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Church, 97 Main Street, Stanardsville, Virginia with the Rev. Jane Piver officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church parish hall.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rocky’s memory to the Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 165, Stanardsville, VA 22973.
