George William Riner

May 28, 1937 — September 19, 2015

George William Riner, 78, of Charlottesville, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his residence after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Riner served our country in the United States Army and later married the love of his life, Evelyn. Together they raised four children and did foster care for 15 years. He worked at Moore Brothers Road and Bridge Construction for 43 years and Lane Construction for 3 years before his retirement. He loved gardening, fishing and being with family and his special companion, Ollie, his dog.

He is survived by his children, William E. Riner and his wife, Linda, Gary W. Riner and his wife, Karen, David G. Riner and Evelyn E. Staton and her husband, Glen; three siblings, Randolph L. Riner and his wife, Linda of Pikeville, KY, Virginia L. Riner of Stanardsville, VA and Marie J. Peyton of Chesterfield, OH; grandchildren, William C. Riner, Warren G. Riner, Jonathan W. Riner and his wife, Amanda, Jennifer A. Riner, Victoria R. Yanez, Maria L. Yanez and Nelson “BoBo” Davis; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Frances Riner of 49 years.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with Brother Chubby Sipes and Brother John W. Roach officiating.

Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pky Suite 300 Charlottesville, VA 22911.
