James Edward Morris

James Edward Morris, a man of warmth and gentle spirit, peacefully passed away on September 22, 2026, on the same day he was born seventy-eight years ago, in his beloved hometown of Stanardsville, Virginia.

Born to the late Onnie and Mavis Morris, James was a cherished son, brother, husband, and friend, whose life was a testament to kindness and generosity.

James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patsy Morris, whom he adored and shared many beautiful years with. Also preceding him in death were his honorary son, Roy Keith Conley, his sister Elizabeth Erlene Morris, and his nephew Gregory Shifflett. Despite these profound losses, James carried their memories with grace and love throughout his life.

He is mourned by his devoted family, including his sister Thelma L. Gieger of Richmond, Virginia, and his brother Joseph N. Morris of Charlottesville, Virginia. His sister-in-law, Hattie Mary Shifflett of Stanardsville, Virginia, also survives him, along with his nieces Pansy Delfi of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jody Gieger of Hopewell, Virginia, and Heather Morris of Crozet. His nephews, Stuart Morris of King George, Virginia, and Brandon Morris of Louisa, Virginia, will forever hold his memory dear.

James was also blessed with a wide circle of cousins, family, and friends who enriched his life in countless ways.

James was a true son of Virginia, with a passion for bluegrass music that often found him strumming his banjo, filling the air with melodies that brought joy to those around him. An avid basketball fan, James also indulged in watching westerns and crime shows, finding comfort in the stories they told.

While he cherished spending time with family and friends, he equally appreciated moments of solitude, which allowed him to reflect on a life well-lived.

A service to honor James's life will be held on September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Batten Funeral Home, located at 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia 22968. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a man who touched their hearts with his kindness and sincerity beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Greene County Fire and Rescue, an organization that reflects James's spirit of service and care for his community.

The Morris family extends a heartfelt thank you to Nurses Felisha and Doris, whose exceptional care and compassion provided comfort to James in his final days. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
