James Harold Shifflett, lovingly known as “Uncle Jimmy” or “Papa Jimmy,” passed away on February 8, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family. A lifelong mountain man, Jimmy found peace and joy on the land he called home.
Jimmy loved playing the banjo, bringing music and joy to everyone around him. He cherished hunting season with his son and grandson, creating memories that will forever be cherished. He also loved raising animals, spending time outdoors, and sitting on his porch sharing stories, laughter, and friendly greetings.
Jimmy lived simply but fully, rooted in family, tradition, and the mountain he loved. He will be deeply missed, but his memory lives on in every banjo tune, mountain breeze, and smile shared from his front porch.
Jimmy is the son of the late Mannis Shifflett and Anna Shifflett. In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his sisters, Bertha Morris, Mattie Morris, Elizabeth Morris, Dorothy Shifflett, Cennie Morris, Betty Marshall, Ruby Carver, and Lena Hunt.
Jimmy is survived by his brother Manis “Junior” Shifflett, sister Joyce Conley, his children Tammy (Brad) Eppard and Jamey Shifflett (Wynde Sauveur), his grandchildren Parker, Elise, Haeley, Talan, and Brady, his great-grandchildren Gracie, William, and Taytum, and his loyal dog Banji.
Jimmy’s family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the Greene County deputies and emergency medical personnel who responded.
