James Hastings Jr. of Midlothian, VA, joined his Heavenly Father on October 11, 2026, leaving a lifetime of memories and a family that wishes they had one more day with him. James was born November 26, 1961, to James Hastings Sr. and Nancy Owen Spaulding. He was preceded in death by his father, James Hastings Sr., and stepfather, Thomas Spaulding.
James is survived by his wife Lisa Jinks Hastings, his children James, Jaimi, Eric, Angela (Justin), and Joseph (Danielle), his grandchildren Nathan, Savannah, and Jaxsun, his great-grandchildren Jeremiah and Amayiah, his mother Nancy, and his siblings Bobby, Danny, Aimee, and Lynne.
A proud graduate of Hermitage High School, James was quite the athlete, participating in multiple school sports including football, wrestling, and diving, all while somehow finding the time to play the saxophone in the band. Sitting still was never his strong suit.
That same energy and work ethic followed him through all ventures of his life. He was happiest when he had something to do with his hands, whether it was building model cars, helping a family member, or repairing HVAC systems. If something needed fixing, James was always willing to roll up his sleeves and get to work.
Prior to his illness, James also found great joy in being involved with his church and working with its youth. Whether sharing his faith, offering guidance, or simply spending time with the younger generation, he valued the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Teaching came naturally to James, whether in the classroom, on the job, or at the church. He believed in passing along what he knew. James had a servant's heart and always looked for ways to help others, especially by offering his time.
While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that James leaves behind a lifetime of memories, lessons learned, and stories that will continue to bring smiles for years to come. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of lending a helping hand, and that there's always something worth fixing. Though his tools may be put away and his work here is done, the impact he made on those around him will live on. We hope he's finally getting some well-deserved rest, although, knowing James, he's probably already found something up there that needs fixing.
