James Mervin Shifflett

James Mervin Shifflett, 81, passed away peacefully on November 24th, 2025, at his place of residence. He was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and an avid hunter who found joy and purpose in the outdoors. He cherished every moment spent in nature.

Mervin spent his entire life working in carpentry. He loved doing work with his hands, whether it was fixing things around the house or working on small outdoor equipment.

Known for his kindness, patience and steady presence, he touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His love for the wilderness, and the respect with which he approached it, will be remembered always.

He is preceded in death by his parents Cleveland and Josie Shifflett, his wife Judith Shifflett, his son Jamie Shifflett, his brothers, Joe, Early, Donald (Jimbo) and his sisters Goldie, Avis, Margaret, Elsie, and Betty Sue.

He is survived by his sons, David Shifflett, Shane Shifflett and Phillip (Sandy) Hammer. His grandchildren Hailey, Dillon, Anthony, Stevie, Luke (Storm) and Noah. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, November 26th at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
