James Edward Shaffner

James Edward Shaffner, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Earlysville, Virginia, surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

He was born on August 5, 1953, in Elkin, North Carolina, to Patty Moxley Shaffner and the late James Ray Shaffner.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vickie June Kerns, and his sister Deborah June Goodwin.

He is survived by his mother, Patty Shaffner; wife, Rhonda Doering Shaffner; children, Justin Ray Shaffner (Viktoryia), Jonas Uriah Shaffner (Jac), Yvonne Schoelkopf, Carmen Schoelkopf, and Lisa Schoelkopf; grandson, Anton Kalesnikav; sister, Amanda Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jim loved traveling and spending time outdoors, especially riding his Harley. He took numerous trips across the US and around the world exploring and spending time with family and friends. He retired as a system analyst engineer from GE Fanuc after 42 years of dedicated service.

His wishes will be honored, and his family will have a private service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
