Joanne Herndon Dawson

Joanne Herndon Dawson, 84 of Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. Mrs. Dawson was born on July 17, 1940, the daughter of the late Everett Gaines Herndon and Jessie Graves Herndon. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Donald Dawson, Sr..

Joanne faithfully served the Greene County community from 1973 to 2006, when she retired as the Deputy Commissioner of Revenue. 

Surviving are two sons, Doyle (Don) Donald Dawson, Jr. (Mary Lou) and David Gaines Dawson (Dawn). Three grandsons, Robert (Rob) Hubbard Dawson, John (Jay) Gaines Dawson, and Matthew Henry Waller. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Batten Funeral Home in Ruckersville, VA. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Ruckersville Community Cemetery.
