John Lee Capelle, 80, of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026.
Born September 28, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, John built a life defined by intellect, generosity, and quiet determination. He earned a degree in Mathematics from Morehead State University in Kentucky, launching a career that began as a U.S. Air Force civilian employee at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Over the years, his talent and work ethic led him into executive roles with several well-known private sector companies, where he earned respect for his analytical mind and measured approach.
John was an avid golfer and, in his younger years, an exceptional baseball player who drew interest from multiple professional teams. In characteristic fashion, he chose instead to focus on building a successful career and family life — a decision that reflected his practical nature and long-view thinking.
Those who knew John will remember a man who was larger than life in presence — big, friendly, highly intelligent, and at times intensely focused. Beneath that intensity was a deeply generous spirit. One of his greatest joys was quietly supporting local families and organizations, especially during the Christmas season.
He is survived by his loving wife, Terri Capelle; his sons, Jason Capelle and Greg Capelle; and his grandchildren, Jared Capelle and Jordan Capelle.
He was preceded in passing by his daughter, Debbie Capelle; his father, John H. Capelle; and his mother, Frances L. Capelle.
In accordance with his wishes, no public visitation will be held. A private family ceremony will take place at a private location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org).
Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
An online guestbook is available at www.battenfuneral.com for those wishing to share memories or offer condolences. Your kind words will bring comfort and strength to the family during this time.
