Johnny Wesley Roach, 88, of Gordonsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025. Born on May 6, 1937, Johnny was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Johnny shared thirty wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Patsy Shifflett Roach. Their life together was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to family. Johnny was a man of quiet strength and deep compassion, and his steadfast love for those around him defined his character.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Luther Roach and Minnie Florence Roach, brothers William, Prentice, Gordon, Leroy, Sammie, Earnest and Shirley; his sisters Virginia, Lena, and Jeannie; and his beloved niece, Frances Riner, with whom he shared a special bond.
Johnny’s legacy continues through the lives of his children: JW Roach; Christopher Houchens and wife Maggie; and Stephanie Shifflett and husband Keith. He was a proud and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: CJ Houchens, Courtney Shifflett, Amber Houchens, Haley Shifflett, Nathan Houchens (Red Head Boy), Harlen Roach, and Landon Roach.
He is also survived by his special niece, Wanda Morris who was like a sister to him as well as numerous extended family members and close friends who will miss his kind heart, calming presence, and warm smile. Johnny also leaves behind his beloved fur babies, Izzy, and Jasper, who brought him great joy.
Johnny’s life was a true reflection of loyalty, humility, and unconditional love. His gentle spirit and enduring devotion to family and friends will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Services will be held at Batten Funeral Home, located in Greene County, Virginia. A Visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, September 5th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 6th at 2:00 PM, with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Dyke, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Johnny’s memory to a charity of your choice.
