Luther Herman Breeden, III

January 28, 1961 — September 4, 2025

Stanardsville

Luther "Hook" Herman Breeden, III, 64, of Greene County, VA, went to rest on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, surrounded by his closest friends and family.

Luther was born on January 28th, 1961, to his father, Luther Breeden Jr., and his mother, Dorothy Taylor Breeden. In addition to his parents, he lost a piece of his soul when he lost his son, Dustin "Barney" Breeden.

He will continue to live on in the hearts of his wife of 36 years, Trinie "Old Woman" Breeden and his beloved daughter, Courtni "Squirt" Breeden. Forever and always a daddy's girl, Courtni stepped up and became an amazing caregiver for her father and a steady rock for her mother during his illness.

He is survived by his sister, Melissa Breeden, whose love never wavered during an incredibly difficult time, and his brother Steve. His grandchildren - Alexus "Shug" and Kingston "Scoot" - were deeply loved, but Kaylee "Sis" Breeden was the shining light in his final years and brought him immense joy.

He held a special bond with Mary Shotwell, who he loved as if she were his own daughter, and Karen "Nanny" Shotwell, who shared a deep love for Kaylee.

For over 30 years Luther worked at William Monroe High School with dedication and pride. A passionate outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, though nothing brought him more enjoyment than turkey and deer hunting alongside his closest friends: Jody, Trevor, Dale, and the members of the Copperhead Hunt Club.

While he was quiet by nature, the depth of his heart was always clear to those who knew him. He was a dutiful husband and father, but he truly shined in the role he loved the most - being Grandaddy.

While words fall short and it's impossible to name everyone, the family would like to thank Jody and Alexis Powell for their unwavering love, care, and dedication to Luther in his final months, along with the Houchens family, the Morris family, and dear friends Jenna Lamb and Brian Allen.

An extended thanks would like to be extended to the Cancer Center at Sentara, Legacy Hospice, his nurse Linda Grimes, and the countless friends and family who called, texted, visited, and prayed for them.

To abide by his wishes, there will be no services held for Luther - only the quiet remembrance of a life well lived.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.

An online guestbook is available at www.battenfuneral.com for those wishing to share memories or offer condolences. Your kind words will bring comfort and strength to the family during this time.
