Macy Virginia Geer, 88, of Stanardsville, Virginia, joined our loving Savior on January 10, 2026. She was born on February 4, 1937, to the late Eddie and Sarah Breeden. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephew who were like her children; Janice Irene Marshall (Randolph), Cissy Adams (Cliff), and Milton Southard (Barbara); as well as great nieces and nephews; Randall Marshall (Karen), Tony Southard (Jennifer), Michael Southard, Missy Marshall (Jerry), and Tiffany Jewell (Mason). She is also survived by her great-great nieces and nephews: Jessica Kenty (Brandon), Austin Marshall (Erin), Dalton Hutcherson, and Lexi Hutcherson. She had a multitude of great, great, great nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and she cherished the time she was able to spend with them. Macy was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Sarah, her beloved sister, Mamie Southard, her brother, Sanford Geer, and her nephew, Earl Southard.
Macy loved bingo outings with her niece, Cissy, trips to Goodwill with her niece, Irene, and time spent with her special friend, Phyllis. She also always looked forward to church on Sundays with her great-nephew, Randall and his wife, Karen. She was a gifted cook and was known to have enough food to feed an army whenever someone stopped by. No one ever left her home hungry. She had a heart of gold and when she was not working at the Greene County Health Department, Bluebell, or Comdial, she devoted her life to caring for others. Macy lovingly cared for her sister, Mamie for twenty-five years until her passing in 2010. Her home was always filled with children, as she helped raise not only her great-nieces and great-nephews, but also the neighborhood kids who found love and guidance under her roof. She was truly one of a kind and deeply special to so many. She will always be held close in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Macy was a member at Nortonsville Church of God, where she had a large extended church family that she also deeply cared for. A special thank you to Pastor Greg Payne, Pastor David Allison, Mike Shifflett, and all those who visited her during her hospital stays. We would also like to thank the University of Virginia MICU and 3 West for the wonderful care that she received.
The service and internment will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Geer Family Cemetery. Pastor James David Allison will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in honor of Macy to Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Road Dyke, Virginia 22395.
