Marion Creel Sims, 76, of Stanardsville, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2025. He was born on November 29, 1948, in Gordonsville, Virginia, to the late JD and Ida Sims.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa A. Sims.
Marion is survived by his daughter, Nicole “Bubblegum” Collier; son, Clayton Sims; grandchildren, Toby Collier (Elise), Colby Collier (Kelly), Tory Collier, Corey Collier, Kaelyn Sims, Natalie Sims, Keira Sims; great-granddaughter, Taytum Collier; brother, Jeff Sims (Kitty); sister, Pam Shelton (David); step-son, Landon Wilson; step-daughters, Nya Wilson and Kamdyn Wilson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marion graduated from William Monroe High School and joined the Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was very proud to serve his country. He had a great love of God and bluegrass music. Marion was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time in the mountains with his bear hounds. Marion had a passion for horses, mainly Tennessee Walkers. He loved riding or attending horse shows. Marion spent much of his time with his wife, Teresa, and their dog, Thumper, camping across the US, or with their camping friends listening to bluegrass music. Marion worked for Virginia Power, but his true passion was carpentry. He truly valued his time with his family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Batten Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Batten Funeral Home, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Eddie Deane officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
