Mary Lou Greenwood

June 1, 1932 — November 16, 2020

Mary Lou Greenwood, 88 of Barboursville, VA passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020.

Born June 1, 1932, in Front Royal, VA.  She was the fourth daughter of Kate and George Foster.

Mary graduated from Warren County High School in 1950.  She then moved to Falls Church, VA., and worked for Melpar, Inc. where she operated blueprint reproducing equipment for the drafting department.

Mary married Joe Greenwood in 1957.  During their marriage, they lived all over the United States.  No matter where she was living, she became active in the Community.  Some clubs that she served in were the Tucker, GA. Garden Club, the Welcome Wagon Social Club in CA., the Virginia Elks Ladies Auxiliary, and the Warrenton AARP.  She also participated in the Northumberland Association for Progressive Stewardship and the Northumberland Woman’s Club.  Her commitment to serving others was her passion.  One of her proudest moments was traveling to an area that was devasted by Hurricane Katrina and helping in the clean-up rebuilding.  Her home away from home was the Stanardsville United Methodist Church where she loved serving her community through church activities.

She loved collecting quilts, thimbles, and period glassware.

With her husband of 63 years, they traveled to the four corners of the Earth.  Like Joe, Mary lived every day to the fullest!

Her husband passed in January 2020.  She is survived by her three children, Belinda Marie Cassidy, Joseph Michael Greenwood, and Elizabeth Ann Ohr.  She had six wonderful grandchildren and two adorable great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in Mary's honor to the Stanardsville United Methodist Church.
