Melvin Ray Courtney

Melvin Ray Courtney, 73, of Stanardsville, Virginia, went to his eternal resting place on February 12, 2023 at the University of Virginia Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born October 8, 1949, he was the son of the late Ray Thomas Courtney and Christine Virginia Courtney. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson Colby Eppard. 

He is survived by his son Bradford Courtney, step daughter Tracy Foster, grandchildren Peyton and Connor Courtney, and their mother Michelle Peyton, and grandson Courtney Eppard.
He is also survived by his sister Cheryl Courtney and two brothers Wayne Courtney and wife Cecelia and Keith Courtney and wife Becky, nieces Kimberly Sheldon, Christina Mundell and Karen Hester, and nephews Gregory Deane, Thomas Courtney, and Allen Bryant, along with many great nieces and nephews. 

Melvin left behind many friends including Wendell Fenner, who was like a son to him. He was there for Melvin until the very end. 

Melvin worked in construction his entire life and partnered with his father at Courtney Construction for many years. He was a carpenter at heart and was always working on a project. 
He adored his two grandchildren Peyton and Connor, and never missed an opportunity to talk about them and share stories.

Melvin enjoyed hunting and playing cards, spending time with his set back friends, and watching nascar; he enjoyed many trips with friends in the past years.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
