Naymon Earl Morris

Naymon Earl Morris passed June 26, 2014 at home, Mission Home, Greene County, VA surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 13, 1938 in Greene County to the late Melvin and Effie Jane Shifflett Morris.

Naymon received his GED while in the US Army, 1961 – 1963 and serving in the Panama Canal. He worked for the Virginia Department of Highway from 1964 to 1997 when he retired.

He married his love, Betty Lou Shifflett on December 31, 1970 in White Hall, VA and together they had two children, Lisa Mae Vick and her husband, Cory and their children, Morgan, Daniel, Casey and Ryan and Anthony Phillip Morris and his wife, Melinda McClurkin and their children, Christopher, Mikayla, and Elijah and his nephew, Eugene Gordon Shifflett, son of James O. Shifflett.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Marie Shifflett, wife of the late, John Shifflett.

Naymon was a good man of simple pleasures. You could always find him hunting for deer, bear, groundhog, or rabbits. As the years passed and his collection of guns and hunting dogs grew, you would find Morgan, the oldest granddaughter, going with him whenever she could. As Naymon grew more tired and unable, Morgan would go and find what he had shot.

Naymon was very helpful with his family history and for many others in the area. He was well known and liked for his kindness and knowledge of hunting. Many hours would be spent talking and sharing stories of a good hunt. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Naymon attended Nortonsville Church of God and he loved the Lord.

He had a very sharp mind right up until the very end. He had many visitors the last several weeks of his life both from dear family and friends. He would be lying in his bed and you would think he was asleep and would chime into the conversation with out missing a thing. He enjoyed each and everyone. He will be greatly missed. We love you Naymon and will miss you always.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nortonsville Church of God.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Nortonsville Church of God with Pastor David Allison officiating.
