Phyllis Jane Morris passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 79 on June 9, 2025. The previous weekend, her entire family had gathered to celebrate her birthday, so she knew how tremendously she was loved.
Phyllis was born on May 25, 1946, to the late Thurl and Marie Raines and was the older sister of the late Thurl Raines Jr. and Richard Raines.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence E. Morris; three children: Elizabeth Macdonald of Alexandria, VA; Carroll Morris (Jennifer) of Stafford, VA; and David Morris (Angela) of Fredericksburg, VA; six grandchildren: Lindsey (Joseph), Matthew (Courtney), Madison (Brandon), Mackenzie, Jacob, and Sofia; one great grandchild: Lydia; and countless nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Phyllis and Clarence were childhood sweethearts who built a beautiful family and life together. She loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmother. She looked forward to Sunday dinners with her family, where she got to spoil her grandchildren with sweet treats and their favorite snacks. Phyllis was an amazing cook, and she was especially known for her delicious mac and cheese. She never let anyone leave her house without being fed.
Phyllis was incredibly caring and thoughtful. She never missed sending a card on a birthday, holiday, or any other special occasion. She even created and printed her own personalized cards and envelopes. Her grandchildren will never forget receiving their “candy money” for holidays like Halloween and Easter. She couldn't stand seeing old and neglected doll babies at the thrift store, so she would “rescue” them and fix them up with the love that only a seasoned grandma could give.
Following a 17-year career in customer service at CL Barnes furniture store, she retired and spent her time tending to her garden and watching hummingbirds visit the feeder on her porch. She was never pretentious and always took pleasure in the simple things in life. She will be incredibly missed.
