Robert Edward "Eddie" Batten, 87, of Scottsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Eddie was born on October 24, 1934, to the late Robert Harold Batten and Mary Beasley Batten.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Davis Thomas Batten; and his daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Marie Batten Good.
Left to cherish his memory are his three boys, William "Billy" Gregory Batten, Thomas "Tommy" Batten, and Norman Scott "Scotty" Batten; a sister, Rose Batten Wade (Edwin); his grandchildren, Daniel Scott Good (Jessica), Elizabeth Ashley Good Tolson (Benjamin), William Randolph "Randy" Sloan Batten, Thomas Bradley Batten, Nicholas Carlton Kirby, Stedman Michael Robert Batten (Nicole), and Matthew Scott "Scotty" Batten; five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Papa also had a dog who he loved more than life itself, "Ratchet" who he called "Rat or Rat Rat".
Eddie was known around town mostly for his work in the automobile industry. Eddie was the proud owner of Batten's Auto Parts on West Main Street in historic Charlottesville, where he met many customers who became lifelong friends and made many memories. Eddie served his country in the United States Army National Guard until he was honorably discharged in 1959. Eddie loved working in the parts store, running the rollback towing cars and trucks, and working at the junkyard. When he was home you could always find him cooking or watching westerns on TV.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022. beginning at 1 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens with his grandson, Scotty Batten, officiating. Eddie was a simple man and the family ask that you attend in a respectable, however, comfortable attire.
