Robert Hampton Stitely

Robert Hampton Stitely, 80, of Ruckersville, VA passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on July 18, 1937 in Thurmont, MD to the late Norman Clyde and Harriet Ruth Stitely.
Upon graduating from Thurmont High School, Bob joined the US Navy and served aboard the cruiser USS Newport News from 1955-1959, He met the love of his life, His wife, Irene, shortly after returning from his military service. They moved to Virginia in 1970 when he began his career with the US Government as a photographer. Bobs hobbies included upholstering, gardening and spending time with his daughters. He was very proud to be a cancer survivor. Bob faithfully loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Irene A. Stitely; his daughters, Robin Woodson and her husband, Matthew, Angella Stitely-Lamm and her husband, Mark, and Helen Harris and her husband, James; his siblings, Beatrice Bentz, Catherine Atkins, Lois Riffle and Ruth Ann Miller; grandchildren, Hannah Woodson, Grant Woodson, Brooke Woodson, Bradley Harris, Ethan Lamm and Isaac Lamm; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Stitely, Norman Stitely, William Stitely and Louise “Dee” Fraley.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 2620 Frays Mill Rd, Ruckersville, VA 22968 with Pastor Steve Nethery officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
