Rodger Sherman Shifflett, 83, of Ruckersville, Virginia, peacefully passed away on October 23, 2026, at the Renaissance Assisted Living facility in Stanardsville, Virginia.
Rodger was born on February 2, 1943, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Roy and Nettie Shifflett.
His love for his family was the most important thing to him, and his care was always felt as a son, Husband, Big brother, and Uncle. He is survived by his brothers, Daniel Shifflett and wife Patti, Dale Shifflett and wife Phyllis, sisters, Angela Shifflett and husband Irving, and Diane Drew and husband Jerry, in addition to dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His wife, Doris Conley, and his niece, Dana Reye Shifflett, preceded him in death.
Rodger retired from Sperry Marine Northrop Grumman after 37 years. He started with Sperry immediately after high school graduation and held various positions, but his mechanical aptitude and desire for perfection led him to a position in quality control. He proudly served in the National Guard for six years. Rodger could fix anything and enjoyed working on old cars and spending time with his buddies Elmer, Jessie, and Gilmer. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed old movies and classic country music.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rodger’s life on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Batten Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia 22968. The gathering will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Josh Shifflett will officiate the ceremony, and interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Dyke, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dana Reye Shifflett Scholarship at PVCC, 501 College Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22902, or to Greene County Fire and Rescue.
The Shifflett family extends heartfelt thanks to Gray and the staff at Greene Acres Rehab Center, Beth and her staff at Renaissance, and Medi Home Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion that comforted Rodger over the past year. Your kindness will always be remembered. Special thanks to Cassie, LeeAnn, Tina, and their coworkers, whom Rodger affectionately called “my girls.” Your support and patience were a blessing to Rodger and our family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
