Roy Edward Shafer

RoyEdward Shafer, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2015.
Roy was born on March 2, 1952 in Oakland, California. He was the son of Delores June Wilcox Via and the late James Robert Shafer.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Spencer Shafer; two brothers, Danny Shafer and Harold Hyde.
He is survived by a loving wife, Tamlia “Tammy” C. Shafer; two sons, Roy “Cricket” Shafer, Jr. and Cyrus “Bumper” W. Shafer; one sister, Blanche Snow; three brothers, James Shafer, Robert “Bobby” Shafer and Forrest “Piney” Via; stepfather, Forrest “Woody” Via; Grandchildren, Paige, Matt, Joshua, Sereniti, Rozlynn, Destanie and Gavin; dear friends, Wayne Flowers and Judy Sykes; and many other family members and friends.
Roy loved his wife, Tamlia, whom he married on April 15, 1972. They had three wonderful boys, Cricket, Bumper and Gary. He was a dad who loved being with his family. He was a great provider. He loved spending time with his wife by going places together and truly loved spending time with his boys with a lot of laughter and cookouts at the lake. Roy was always a joy to be around and he loved people. Roy had a lot of fun and enjoyed time with his special granddaughters, Sereniti and Rozlynn. They were “Paw Paw’s” pride and joy. Roy always enjoyed going out to eat, meeting people and was always full of laughter. One of his good and close friends was, Judy Sykes who is a special part of our family. Wayne Flowers was Roy’s closest friends for many years. Roy‘s main concern in his life was attending church as often as he could. He loved all his church family. He attended Full Gospel Assembly on Profit Road. Pastor Ronald Sipe and his wife, Libby, who also is more than our Pastor. They both were considered our close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia with Pastor Ronald Sipe officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
