Ruby Cason Herndon

Ruby Cason Herndon, 98, of Ruckersville, VA passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Grace Health and Rehabilitation of Greene while holding her grandson, Matthew’s hand. She was born on March 8, 1918 in Orange, VA to the late Marshall and Lena Cason.
Mrs. Herndon was a longtime member of Ruckersville Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and Nanny who will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her son, Alexander Campbell “Cammie” Herndon and his wife, Judy of Barboursville; and two grandchildren who she loved dearly, Chloe Ann Herndon and Matthew Campbell Herndon and his wife, Amanda Vanorsdale Herndon.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Maxwell Campbell Herndon, who she affectionately called her “Dreamboat”; her siblings, Claudette Frances Deavers, Marie C. Reynolds and Emmett C. Cason, and her beloved dog, “Tramp”.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Ruckersville Baptist Church, 6 Moore Rd Ruckersville, VA 22968, with Rev. Kyle Clements officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Cammie Herndon, Matthew Herndon, Billy Wright, Bev Dulaney, Ronnie Deavers and Zachery Deavers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grace Health and Rehab for the excellent care she received during her stay and to Hospice of the Piedmont for their love and compassion shown during this difficult time.
