Russell Adkins, Sr., 81, of Ruckersville, Virginia, passed away at UVA Health on Friday, June 5, 2026. Russell was born in Hinton, West Virginia, to the late Homer Adkins and Rhoda (Bennett) Adkins.
Russell married the love of his life, Brenda Louise (Deane), on October 30, 1964, in Fairfax, Virginia. Together, they built a beautiful life and family over many years. A dedicated and hard worker, Russell spent many years working as a lumber truck driver for Lester Home Group - Jim Carpenter Lumber Company.
Faith was a central part of Russell’s life. He was a devout attendee of both Grace Free Will Baptist Church and Calvary Free Baptist Church, where he found great community and fellowship.
In addition to his parents, Russell was predeceased by his beloved wife, Brenda Louise (Deane) Adkins; his brothers, Alex Jackson Adkins Sr., Cecil Adkins, and Dale Adkins; and his sisters, Ethel May Bower and Ida Mae Harrison.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Donna (Wallace) Harlow and Russell (Lisa) Adkins Jr.; his grandchildren, Wally (Suzie) Harlow, Justin Harlow, Shawn (Tiffany) Harlow, Matthew (Kaleigh) Harlow, Sarah (Tyler) Shifflett, Rachel (Austin) Robbins, Mary (Brant) Adkins, Jacob Adkins, and Thomas Adkins; great-grandchildren, Asher, Priscilla, Riggins, and Rowan Harlow, Elizabeth, Hallie, Isaac, and Ethan Shifflett, Nevaeh, Danica, Lucy, Heavenleigh, and Walker Robbins, and Ivy-Lynn Adkins; and his great-great-grandchild, Malakai and Clementine.
Russell is also survived by his brothers, Wilber Ray Adkins and James Ray Adkins, and his sisters, Judy Jean Adkins and Mamie Adkins Dunford.
A graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 12784 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Virginia, with Danny Woody officiating. The family will accept friends following the service for a meal and time of fellowship.
