It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Russell "Jr." D. Morris, a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 16th at the age of 88.
Born on July 11, 1937, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Russell was a man of quiet strength, deep integrity, and boundless love for his family. He spent his life leading by example. He retired after 42 years from Conagra.
Russell is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Morris, with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage. He was the proud father of Diane (Sonny) Collier, Michael (Lisa) Morris, and Pam (Rod) Chapman, whom he raised as his own. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Rodney (Joanie) Chapman, Renae (Dwayne) Britton, Gary Shifflett, Kevin (Kelly) Collier, Brad (Kalie) Collier, Daren Morris, and Elaina Morris. His great-grandchildren are Dakoda Chapman and Kayla Britton. Drew Britton, Tyler Britton, Macon Collier, Miles Collier, Elayna Shifflett, and Jeremy (Chevy)Shifflett. They brought him endless joy and pride. He is also survived by eleven siblings, Clarence (Rabbit), Lavern, Brenda, Donnie, Ronnie, Bobby, Nancy, Patricia, Mary, and Debra. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Russell was preceded in death by his father and mother, Russell and Elizabeth Morris, a sister he raised as his own, Elaine Shifflett, a brother, Earl Morris, and a sister, Genevie Shifflett.
He had a special way of making everyone feel seen and heard, and he never missed an opportunity to share a story, offer support, or lend a helping hand. Whether it was cheering at various sporting activities, fixing things around the house, hunting with family and friends, or listening to bluegrass music, he showed his love not in grand gestures, but in the everyday moments that truly mattered.
Russell will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His memory will live on in the lives he touched and in the values he instilled in those he leaves behind.
