Stephen Carl Perfater

October 9, 1948 — December 11, 2025

Barboursville

The family of Stephen Carl Perfater of Barboursville, Virginia, is saddened to announce his passing on Thursday, December 11th, 2025. He joins his wife of 54 years, Mary Dean Perfater, who passed on July 7, 2022.

Steve, 77, was born in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1948 to Carl and Valmer Perfater. He spent his childhood years in Richmond with his twin brother, Sherman, and his older sister, Suzanne, before relocating to Kensington, Maryland. There, he met Mary at Einstein High School. They married on September 28th, 1968. Steve was a successful electrician and business owner of A. Dean Electric Company, founded by Mary's father, Aubrey Dean. Steve and Mary raised their three children, Beth, Sarah, and Matthew, in Silver Spring, Maryland, and were active members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Steve was a quick-witted, charismatic person with strong convictions who also loved finding humor in everyday life. He enjoyed good times with close friends and family, the Washington Redskins, and fishing with his brother. But most of all, he loved his wife Mary more than anything in this world; she was his one and only true love, his soulmate. Upon retiring in 2005, Steve and Mary moved to Barboursville, where they attended Westover United Methodist Church.

Steve is survived by his three children, Beth Perfater Jordan, Sarah Perfater, Matthew Perfater, and wife Christina, as well as his brother, Sherman Perfater, and wife, Rita. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Kathleen, Connor, Sheridan, Duncan, Jason, Mallory, and Landon, and his great-grandchild, Dermot.

If you knew him, you loved him. He was one of a kind, and we will miss him greatly. Thankfully, we can rejoice in knowing that Steve and Mary have been reunited in heaven for all eternity.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
