Tereca "Terry" Lynn Arey

Tereca Lynn “Terry” Arey of Ruckersville, Virginia, died unexpectedly in her sleep on December 23, 2018—a great heart who left behind her cherished son, Shaun Myers of Atlanta, GA, her dear step-grandchildren, Marley Paige and Piper Grace Lawrence, and Matthew and Stephen Shaffer in Tidewater, VA, and countless beloved co-workers and friends in Charlottesville and around the country.

Terry was born October 9, 1956 and raised in Staunton, Virginia, the only child of Jack and Anne Arey. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School class of 1975 in Staunton, Virginia, and then attended Shenandoah Conservatory.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Lewis Lawrence.

For nearly twenty years Terry was a legal assistant with the law firm of Michie Hamlett PLLC, first in its Asbestos Personal Injury Section and then in its Commercial Section, where she was often referred to as the firm’s “earth mother” because of her sunny and affectionate disposition. Terry was a bright sunshine in the lives of all who knew her—someone who never met a stranger and who loved life and all of God’s creation and was loved in return. She gave freely of herself and her talents. She was available to all who needed a friendly ear. An expert needle-worker, especially in knitting and needlepoint, she made countless baby blankets, shawls and sweaters for friends the children of friends and even for acquaintances she had only recently met. Among her many talents, she was a fine organist and pianist, having played in a number of churches in her hometown of Staunton, the Tidewater area and in Charlottesville.

A memorial service will be held 11: 00 A.M. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at University Baptist Church, 1223 W. Main Street Charlottesville, VA. A reception will follow the service.
