Born on August 19, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware, Theresa was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
Theresa graduated from Charlottesville High School and attended Piedmont Virginia Community College, where she earned a business certificate. She dedicated over 40 years of service to the UVa Alumni Association until her retirement, excelling in various roles, including accounting and event planning. Her strong work ethic, professionalism, and diligence were valued by her colleagues.
Theresa was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Barber; mother, Evelyn Dudley; and sisters, Robin Brunath and Sandi Tidd. She is survived by her children, Naomi Deane, Eric Deane, and Russell Deane Jr.; grandchildren, Alex Tucker, Brayden Tucker, Benjamin Tucker, Aria Deane, and Madison Deane; former spouse with whom she maintained and shared a home, Russell Deane Sr. She also leaves behind siblings, Donna Slough, Debbie Westbury, Wendy Marsh, Charlotte Snow, Jackie Barrow and Stevie Barber, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Theresa was an avid reader, always seeking to acquire knowledge. In her gardens, she found peace tending to her flowers and plants and loved the daily ritual of watching hummingbirds. She also highly enjoyed the art of doll collecting. She served as a Girl Scout leader, influencing many young lives in her community. She was a devoted member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for young children.
A small family service to honor Theresa's life will be held at Monticello Memorial Gardens on Saturday, November 15, at noon. Batten Funeral Home in Ruckersville, Virginia, is assisting the family during this time.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express sympathy may send cards and flowers to Naomi Deane at 65 Wilton Pasture Lane Apt 204, Charlottesville, VA 22911, and/or to Eric Deane at 4020 Richmond Road, Troy, Virginia. The family appreciates all gestures of love and remembrance in Theresa's honor. May she rest in eternal peace. Until we meet again.
