Thomas Crawford Edwards

Thomas Crawford Edwards, 80, of Ruckersville, VA passed away on May 3. 

He was born on August 18, 1941, to the late Thomas D. & Lorena Meeks Edwards in Charlottesville. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gayle Deane Edwards, son, Jeffrey Edwards (Annie) Powhatan. VA, daughter Lynn Vecchio (Bob) Virginia Beach; 3 grandchildren – Jessica & Anthony Vecchio, Fairfax; Emily Edwards, Powhatan; 3 step granddaughters – Erin, Madiy & Faith Brecht and sister, Joan E. Crawford (Wade), Albemarle County. 

Tommy served in the U.S. Army with a one-year duty in Viet Nam. He retired after 25 years of service in the Athletic Dept. of the University of Virginia. Over the years he has volunteered with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, Ruckersville Vol. Fire Dept., Feeding Greene (Food Pantry); & GRACE (Greene Alliance of Church/Community Efforts). He was active in American Legion Post 128 and a member of Ruckersville Baptist Church and was the front door “greeter” and loved to give the kids “high 5s”. His hobbies were boating, fishing, his garden & square dancing. He & Gayle loved to travel and take cruises. 

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am-12:30 pm Saturday May 7, 2022 and Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA, 22968. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday May 7, 2022 at Ryan Funeral Home with Pastor Kyle Clements officiating. Interment to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
