Mr. Thomas E. Kersey, 85, of Ruckersville, passed away peacefully at his home on May 9, 2026. Born on July 17, 1940, he lived a life defined by hard work, faith, devotion to family, and kindness to others.
Thomas was born to Lola F. Kersey and Willie Wetzel “Pat” Kersey. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Martha Kersey, and by his brother, Wetzel Kersey.
He is survived by his sister, Anna Ruth Looney; his daughters, Kimberly Long (Mark), Cynthia Mott (Paul), and Kim Hutchinson (Stuart); his niece, Pam Morgan; his nephew, Greg Hoylman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Thomas retired from GE Fanuc after 30 years of dedicated service as a machine mechanic. He truly loved his work and his work family. Known as the person who could fix anything, Thomas had an incredible talent for creating parts himself when they could not be found. After his retirement, he continued working for Fisher Auto Parts for 10 years.
Thomas and his beloved wife, Martha, shared a passion for classic cars and enjoyed attending car shows together as proud members of the Charlottesville Cruisers. He also loved baseball, old cars, good food, and spending time with those he loved most. Above all, he was a man of faith with a devoted love of God.
The family would like to extend special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful caregivers at Legacy Hospice, especially Malisa Lacy, RN, Linda Grimes, RN, and Morgan Campbell, RN, whose compassion and care were truly a blessing to Thomas and his family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Batten Funeral Home in Ruckersville. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens, in Charlottesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local animal shelter in Thomas’s memory.
