William Alfred Gustkey

d. May 16, 2014

William Alfred Gustkey, age 85 died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May, 16th 2014.
As a young boy growing up during WWII, William became fascinated with military aircraft. He would build detailed working models of those aircraft and sell them in his local hardware store. As a young man, he joined the US Air Force to serve his country. With his love for planes and helping others, he fulfilled that passion with a life long career working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Late in life he was stricken with Alzheimer's, but would still get excited anytime a plane flew overhead. Almost everyday he woke, he would want to clear the runway, so the planes could land safely. In his final 4 years, he attended JABA community centers in Greene Co and Charlottesville. Everyone that met him, fell in love with him and treated him like family.
We would like to recognize the following organizations for providing valuable services that helped my dad as his disease progressed. In keeping with his service to others, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Jefferson Area Board for Aging (434) 295-0396, reference JABA/Greene, in memory of William Gustkey, or to Hospice of the Piedmont (800) 975-5501 who provided comfort and services to him and his family the last few days of his life.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 5 p.m. t o 7 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, Va 22968.
